Name:  James Maden

Role:   Head of Sales

Joined Northgate: 2016

"The thing that really appeals to me about Northgate and the reason I joined in the first place is that it's an established FTSE 250 organisation and it's given not only myself, but the rest of the team here the opportunity to get things done and make a real difference in a short space of time."

What are you responsible for?   I'm leading the National Strategic Customer base and our remit is to grow those customers. Currently we have over 150 customers of that size who have over 100 vehicles in fleet with us and we've got a team of Business Development Manager’s looking after those customers today.

What made you join Northgate?  Over the last 10 years I have spent my time working for British Gas and Sky TV, two very large FTSE 100 organisations.  The thing that really appeals to me about Northgate and the reason I joined in the first place is that it's an established FTSE 250 organisation and it's given not only myself, but the rest of the team here the opportunity to get things done and make a real difference in a short space of time.

What’s the working environment like? The work environment here is fantastic, I think it’s fair to say that we've got a really good culture across the team, not just within sales but across the whole business.

Are there any opportunities for career progression within Northgate?  Career progression within the business is vast, we are in a position where we can support people who want to progress solely within sales or look at moving sideways across other functions.

What training/development programmes are in place at Northgate?   This is something we invest heavily on, every single person across the sales business will go through a performance development plan to make sure that we are addressing short-term and long-term development needs.

What are the different sales opportunities available within Northgate?  There are a number of different roles within the sales function I think it's around about 15 roles that exist. There are roles where you can move out of new business and in to business development for example. From a progression point of view, there's a number of routes upwards as well, it could be an Area Sales Manager role, it could be moving from a SME role in to a Strategic role or it could be moving into a different function or a supporting function such as the Bids and Tender team.

What advice would you give to someone considering a career with Northgate?  It's a great opportunity to make a real stamp on the business so anyone who's looking at joining Northgate, that’s what I would ask for. Really look at making a mark within the business and the opportunities within Northgate will be vast.
